Joan K. Richards, CKHS president and chief executive officer, left, and Walter Farnam, president of the CKHS Board of Directors, center, present a $5,000 donation to Edward Coleman, president of the Community Action Agency of Delaware County.

At their annual meeting on Dec. 10, the Crozer-Keystone Health System Boards of Directors showed their support for two local charities. The boards presented $5,000 checks to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry and the Life Center of Eastern Delaware County.

Based at Prospect Hill Baptist Church, the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry is a non-denominational, non-sectarian food bank that supplies food to those in need in areas of Delaware County. Each family can use the Pantry twice each month and must fall within the U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for poverty. The organization, part of the Interfaith Coalition of Food Centers, helps hundreds of families each month.

The Life Center of Eastern Delaware County is a state-of-the-art emergency shelter in Upper Darby. Since its inception, the Life Center has helped homeless residents with emergency shelter, permanent housing and employment. The Life Center is operated by the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, which assists families and individuals to move toward economic self-sufficiency and reduce their dependence on public support through a range of programs.

With more than 1,100 physicians and 6,800 employees, Crozer-Keystone Health System is the largest health system and employer in Delaware County. The health system comprises a comprehensive physician network of primary-care and specialty practices as well as five hospitals: Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Springfield Hospital in Springfield and Community Hospital in Chester.
